The 9th annual survey of the market of legal services of Ukraine has been released.

On 16 August 2011, Yuridicheskaya Practika Publishing published the 9th issue of the publication “Ukrainian Law Firms 2011. The Annual Market Survey”.

The survey has revealed that during 2010 and in the first six months of 2011 the market was dominated by the trend of clients experiencing budget constraints and saving by engaging external legal advisers. External legal advisers are engaged in dealing with large-scale projects and the services that require specialized knowledge.

Market participants admit significant prevalence of fixed rates or fees for successful performance in most practices. The exceptions where hourly rates are preserved include arbitration and litigation practices, and the increasing number of orders in the areas of tax and corporate law ensure a slow but steady growth of the market and the return to the practice of hourly billing.

In general, the survey of law firms indicated the increase of hourly rates in 2010, which confirmed the expert opinion on increasing cost of legal services, regardless of the applied forms of payment.

The distinguishing and positive feature of the positive market in 2010 - the first six months of 2011 is the active client focused approach of Ukrainian law firms. In addition, this period was marked by optimization of internal cash flows, introduction of performance indicators both for business processes and work units.

The characteristic trend of personnel policy has been limited hiring of new staff, stricter requirements for applicants and employed professionals.
