Ukrainian Bar Association appeals for support of All-Ukrainian Free Legal Assistance Day
The Ukrainian Bar Association has appealed to Ukrainian attorneys to participate in the All-Ukrainian Free Legal Assistance Day to be held on 21 May 2011 for citizens and legal entities. The initiative to hold the All-Ukrainian Free Legal Assistance Day appeared last year and was widely supported by the advocates’ community. During this event about thirty law firms from different cities of Ukraine opened their doors for visitors. The initiative was also supported by privately practicing lawyers and the Kiev Advocatory Qualification-Disciplinary Commission.
As a result of the first action it has been decided to hold the All-Ukrainian Free Legal Assistance Day every year on each third Tuesday in May.
The event is aimed not only at efficiently assisting all those who need the help of attorneys but not do not have enough means to pay for services, but also to draw society’s attention and that of the state to the legislatively unresolved issue of accordance of free legal assistance in Ukraine.
The initiative on that day provides accordance of legal assistance by attorneys to persons of moderate means, non-government, charitable and other nonprofit organizations as well as to small-scale businesses. The UBA is also appealing to lawyers to join the event and inform interested persons of the possibility to receive free legal assistance by means of disposal of announcements in attorneys’ offices, by e-mail, etc. The list of companies that will support the event will be posted on the UBA site.
