The II Russian-Polish Legal Day took place in Moscow
The II Russian-Polish Legal Day took place on October 24 at the Hotel Courtyard Marriott in Moscow.
The event was organized with official support from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Justice of Poland, the Polish Embassy in Moscow, the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the Polish Chamber of Advocates, the Moscow Exchange, the Moscow Chamber of Advocates and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw.
The participants of the Conference were partners and presidents of leading law firms of both countries, including Acron, PKN Orlen SA, Kompania Piwowarska, Can-Pack S.A., Tenzor Consulting Group, Wardynskii Wspólnicy, ALRUD, Capital Legal Services, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, Clifford Chance, Soltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak, Debica S.A., Kochanski Zieba Rapala i Partnerzy and many others.
Elena Borisenko, deputy minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, Michael Reynolds, partner of the Allen & Overy law firm, President of the International Bar Association, Wojciech Zajaczkowski, ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Russia, and Vassily Rudomino, senior partner of the ALRUD Law Firm, IBA LPD Council Member, opened the conference with their welcoming speeches.
Wojciech Zajaczkowski noticed that the number of business contacts between Russia and Poland had increased considerably and thus, “enhancement of the dialogue between lawyers of the two countries contributes to further development of Russian-Polish relationship in economic fields”.
Suggested topics for discussions included:
- Doing business in Russia — protection of investments;
- Russian Polish trade relations — practitioners’ experiences;
- Polish Capital Markets — an opportunity for Russian companies;
- Legal services market.
In the course of these discussions speakers managed to debate some general issues of doing business under comfortable legal, business, social and cultural conditions as well as particular problems of investment protection, Polish and Russian courts, role of the state and law firm management.
The lecture on Cultural interaction was also part of the programme. It was given by Ekaterina Genieva, vice-president of the Russian Library Association, general director of the All-Russian State Library of Foreign Literature.
At the end of the conference participants expressed their hope for future mutual rapprochement between the legal and business communities of Russia and Poland.
