VII Southern Russia Legal Forum

VII Southern Russia Legal Forum, arranged by Advocates Bureau Yug, international law firm Dentons and business daily Vedomosti took place on 3-4 October 2013.

The Forum participants were represented by heads of international and Russian law and attorneys firms (Arzinger, Bartolius, Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners), CEOs of companies, which operate professionally in the south of Russia,  business marketing specialists, providing consulting services, heads of legal services of companies from real economy sector (M.Video Management, Cargill Yug, Development-Yug).

First session Top Issues of Legal Business Development was opened by Yuri Pustovit, managing partner, Advocates Bureau Yug, who covered problematic issues of advocate’s monopoly and specified the importance of barrier implementation in legal sphere, such as advocate status examination under advocate’s monopoly conditions.

Irina Grebneva, managing partner of Grebneva & Partners, brought up an issue of financial management of a law firm.

The second session, dedicated to current trends and peculiarities of marketing and legal services, was represented by Alexandr Moskovkin, deputy general director of Lexpro, Margarita Gaskarova, editor-in-chief of Legal Success and Legal Insight magazines, Anastasia Makhneva, development director of Intellect-S and Ivan Apatov, managing partner of White Collar Marketing. Ms Gaskarova represented the project 20 Years of Russian Legal Business through the Prism of Marketing. Ivan Apatov introduced effective and ineffective marketing instruments and method, used by some legal companies. Anastasia Makhneva reported on issues of HR-brand development for a law firm.

The second day included 4 sessions. The first session, moderated by Evgeniy Shestakov, managing partner of Intellect-S, was dedicated to intellectual property protection. Mr Shestakov reported guests about new commercial court, specialized on intellectual property issues and established on July 2013. Pavel Sadovskiy, head of intellectual property section in Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners, introduced Disputes for Soviet Brands presentation, where he reported on the top issues in this sphere. 

Anton Bankovskiy, head of intellectual property section in CMS, spoke about copyright protection violated in the Internet, and reported on liability of information broker.

The second session  called Top Issues of Corporative Law was represented with Tatiana Boyko, legal expert of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners where she reported on liability of corporate bodies. Andrey Sychev, managing partner, Volga Legal, continued the topic and outlined the importance of corporate governance in other legal spheres. Timur Bomdarev, managing partner of Arzinger stopped on the top issues of corporate law in Ukraine.

The third session, headed by Igor Stepanov, managing partner, Eberg, Stepanov and Partners, was dedicated to top issues of dispute settlement practice. The speakers were represented by Romn Zaycev, advisor of Dentons, who noted changes in procedures of Russian courts in respect of foreign party; Alexey Potrebich, counsellor of  Kamenskaya & Partners, reported on disputable matters of legal controversy jurisdiction with natural person; Sergey Radcghenko, senior associate of Advocates Bureau Yug, who outlined to struggle with evidence tampering; and Alexandr Arifulin, the chairman of the Moscow City Bar Association Ars Luris, reminded of pre-judicial meaning of judicial acts.

In the conclusion of the final session, supervised by Glenn Kolleeny, partner of Dentons, the participants discussed top issues of real estate and construction through the prism of judicial practice.
