ILF protects interests of a Ukrainian in the European Court in a case on Ukraine’s violation of the European Convention
The European Court of Human Rights awarded its judgment in the case Titarenko vs. Ukraine (application No.31720/02). Andrew Kristenko, the senior associate of the law firm ILF, represented the applicant in court.
In the case Titarenko vs. Ukraine, the court found several violations of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (the Convention), in particular, a violation of Article 3 of the Convention - improper conditions in the detention center at Debaltsevo. The court found these conditions humiliating. The Court found a violation of Article 13 as to the lack of effective and affordable means of protection in the Ukrainian legislation regarding complaints about poor detention conditions. The court awarded moral damages compensation to the sum of EUR 10,000, and EUR 1,000 as compensation of court fees.
